Parts Unlimited Riders Finish 1-2 at Daytona 200 by Honda

3/12/2006

(Daytona Beach, FL (March 11, 2006) — Parts Unlimited rider Jake Zemke, won the Daytona 200 by Honda for the first time followed by fellow Parts Unlimited rider Josh Hayes in second. Jason DiSalvo rounded out the podium in third.

On the 44th lap, five-time Daytona 200 winner, Miguel Duhamel had a 12-second lead when he went down leaving the race up to Zemke to win.

On the 54th lap the pace car came out while debris was removed from the track, which allowed the pack to tighten up. As the pace car left the track, Zemke knifed his way through the pack and into the lead with Hayes in second. Late in the race, Hayes began a charge and when the pair crossed the line, there was only 1.56 seconds separating the two. Hayes' teammate Aaron Gobert put in a consistent ride and finished where he started, in sixth.

Spies Takes Second in Superbike

(Daytona Beach, FL (March 11, 2006) — Parts Unlimited sponsored rider, Ben Spies came within 0.032 seconds of winning Daytona Superbike. Spies battle with Matt Mladin for the entire race.

Going into the last lap, Mladin led with Spies on his tail. Coming out of the chicane, Mladin slowed, allowing Spies to shoot by. Doing so allowed the veteran Mladin to draft the youngster coming off Daytona turn 4 and pass him before the finish line. Neil Hodgson battled for several laps with Miguel Duhamel, and eventually finished a well deserved fourth place. Hodgson's teammate, Ben Bostrom brought his Parts Unlimited ride across the line in seventh. During the later stages of the race, Roger Lee Hayden crashed, and ruined any hopes that Zemke had at a podium finish.
