Jeff Ward Wins Second Supermoto Championship
11/06/2006
Janesville, WI - The 2006 AMA Supermoto Championship came to an end Nov. 4th at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA and Jeff Ward walked away with yet another championship.
During the first Supermoto race, pole sitter, Mark Burkhart failed to take advantage of his starting position and followed Ward around the Queen Mary circuit until the last lap when lappers helped Burkhart catch and make a pass on Ward during the last lap. Although Ward didn't win the race, it was enough for him to clinch his second championship. Doug Henry rounded out the podium in third and second in the points chase.
The 2006 AMA Supermoto Lites Championship was also on the line and series dominator, Cassidy Anderson cruised across the line in fifth place to earn him his first championship. With Anderson cruising around in fifth, Brandon Currie was up front challenging David Pingree for the win. Currie ended up second on the day and second in points for the season.
For the final race of the day and after already locking up the championship, Ward set out to prove what he was capable of. The end result was Ward taking the final race of the season wire-to-wire with Henry in second and Chris Fillmore in third.
