Woods Wins at the Beach
10/24/2006
Janesville, WI - Defending series champion, Nathan Woods took the his second victory of the season at the eleventh round of the World Off-Road Championship Series and in doing so cut his points deficit in half and now sits thirteen points back in third with one round remaining.
Trailing early in the race, Woods stuck to his game plan and picked off everyone ahead of him as the two hour sand race progressed. Early in the race, Jimmy Albertson proved to be the fastest early on as he pulled a big lead from the start. As the race worn on, Albertson would fade back to fourth while Kurt Caselli worked his way around Bobby Garrison for the lead. With one lap to go, Caselli lost the use of three gears which allowed Woods by for the win. Caselli nursed his machine across for second while Garrison crossed the line in third which gave him enough points to take the overall points lead with 209. Former point's leader, Ricky Dietrich had troubles early on and finished fifth on the day while relegating him to second in the championship with 205.
With Woods taking his second win, he now sits in third with 196 and has a realistic chance at the championship should Garrison and Dietrich have problems at the finale in Mesquite, Nevada.
