Townley Earns First Supercross Lites Championship

Detroit, MI - Coming into the fourtheenth round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series, Ben Townley was three points behind Ryan Morais. When the checkers flew, Townley crossed the line in second and grabbed himself a Supercross Lites Championship as well. Chad Reed fought his way back from a poor start to earn yet another second place finish behind Stewart.
With only three points separating Morias and Townley, it was anyone's championship to win as the gate dropped. Ryan Dungey jumped out of the gate like a rocket to earn the holeshot award while Morais close behind and Townley not far away in fourth. Just as things were beginning to get interesting, Morais stalled the bike on lap two, dropping him back as far as tenth. Billy Laninovich took over second place with Townley trailing closely. On lap nine, Townley made his move around Laniniovich before settling into a smooth and steady pace. After the race, Ben told us, "This is the dream that I've wanted for a long time. I set out after it and I've finally achieved it. It feels every bit as good as I thought it would."
After the semi-eventful Supercross Lites main, all eyes were on the starting line of the Supercross Main Event, in hopes to another epic battle between James Stewart and Reed. As the gate dropped, it was Stewart grabbing the holeshot before racing off to the win uncontested. Meanwhile, Reed was suffering from a poor start back in sixth. By lap eight, Reed moved into third place and by lap 14 he had moved around Tim Ferry for second. With two rounds left, Reed sits 38 points behind Stewart in the AMA Supercross Series points.
