Moose Riders Stepping up at Steele Creek GNCC

3/27/2006

Morganton, NC (March 25 & 26, 2006) — A total of 1513 riders showed up for the third round of the 2006 Suzuki Grand National Cross Country Series at Steele Creek. Juha Salminen grabbed the holeshot and led the field all the way to the checkers for the third straight this year. Charlie Mullins rode a strong race to come in second while Moose rider, Glenn Kearney would round out the podium in third.

Unlike the past couple races, Salminen was kept honest for some of the race as Moose Racing riders, Rodney Smith and Glenn Kearney would stay close until each had problems. Smith passed Kearney but would later wreck hard at the top of a hill allowing Kearney to take over second. After a few more wrecks, Smith would end up seventh on the day. Kearney had stomach problems later in the day and wasn't able to hold off the amazing charge from Mullins.

Rounding out the top ten was, Mike Lafferty with a solid ride in fourth followed by Robbie Jenks in fifth. Fred Andrews and Moose rider, Rodney Smith finished sixth and seventh respectively. Barry Hawk came across in eighth while two more Moose riders, Paul Whibley and Jesse Robinson would round out the top ten in ninth and tenth respectively.
