Reed Wins in Dramatic Fashion

12/05/2006

Janesville, WI - The first round of the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP Series kicked off in Toronto, Canada with a bang! After taking time off to surgically repair his shoulder, Chad Reed came to Toronto with a new team, a new outlook and a new preparation to racing and it proved to be a winning combination. With 33,412 spectators in attendance, Reed won a fierce battle with defending series champion, James Stewart while Martin Davalos went wire to wire to take the Lites main event.

With timed practice taking the place of Semi-qualifiers, the intensity increased and Ivan Tedesco was the first victim to realize it. During the first-ever timed practice, Stewart and Tedesco came together in mid-air before a corner and left Tedesco on the ground with a possible broken hand.

Nick Wey grabbed the $1,500 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award at the start of the 20-lap feature, with Carmichael, Reed and the rest of the pack in tow. Once Reed made it into second, Carmichael hit a Tuff Block and went down. By lap three, Reed was out front with a clear track ahead. Stewart began picking riders off after a poor start and Carmichael began his charge from nearly dead last. By lap 12, Stewart made a pass on Reed and the two exchanged passes for a couple laps. The drama came when Stewart missed his line before the finish line and Reed ran into the back of Stewart which forced him to jump off the side of the track. As Stewart re-entered the track, Travis Preston had already committed to jumping the finish line and hit Stewart upon landing.

With Stewart down, Reed cruised around for the remainder of the race to earn himself his first win of the season. Meanwhile, Carmichael had put in an amazing ride and was able to get around Stewart for second.
