Reed Shows Speed in Dallas
4/3/2007
Irving, TX - Nearly 42,000 spectators packed Texas Stadium to witness the thirteenth round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series in Irving TX this weekend. James Stewart came away with another win but Chad Reed was hot on his heels the entire race and proved he still has what it takes to be a title contender. Meanwhile, in the ultra competitive Lites division, Ben Townley walked away with his third victory of the year.
When the gate dropped for the Supercross Lites Main Event, it was Townley taking the Progressive Direct Holeshot award but was quickly overtaken by his teammate, Darcy Lange. Behind the front two were last weeks winner, Ryan Dungey and Sean Hackley, respectively. Before the first lap was complete, Hackley had fell off pace and Dungey made his way around Townley. After a brief battle with Lange, Dungey made his way into the lead on lap four. Just as it looked like Dungey was going to run away with another win, he fell over in the deeply rutted corner after the finish, which allowed Townley to get by him and Lange in the process. Once out front, the top three continued to hold down a steady distance between them and ended up finishing with Townley and Lange taking the top two positions.
Once again, Chad Reed jumped out to a great start of the Supercross Main Event, however it was Andrew Short coming up with the Progressive Direct Holeshot award while Stewart rounded the first turn in around fifth. Before the first lap was over, Stewart had made his way around Reed and began hunting down Short. On lap three, Stewart was out front with Reed close on his heels. For the remainder of the race, Reed kept Stewart in sight from a few bike lengths back. As the race approached the end, Reed appeared to pick it up and quickly closed the gap on Stewart. On the last lap, Reed closed the gap dramatically and dove to the inside of Stewart in the last corner only to come up short by .085 seconds. Meanwhile, Paul Carpenter and Jeff Gibson battled their way into eighth and tenth respectively by the end of the race.
