Reed and Lange Earn Final Podium Spots in Orlando

3/19/2007

Janesville, WI - The eleventh round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series provided the 42,991 fans at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL to some of the best racing of the year! James Stewart edged out Ricky Carmichael in the main while Chad Reed rounded out the podium in third. During the extremely entertaining Lites main, Darcy Lange was able to work his way in onto the podium with a third as well.

During the first Supercross Lites Main Event start, it was Tommy Hahn grabbing the holeshot with Ryan Dungey close behind. After turn three, as Dungey and Hahn were entering the whoop section Matt Goerke's bike shot into Dungey after landing off the triple in the next lane over. The incident collected several riders and forced the track crew to throw the red flag.

Start number two went to Billy Laninovich with Branden Jesseman close behind. Ben Townley and Ryan Morais sorted themselves out into third and forth while Mike Alessi moved into fifth by lap three. On lap six, Jesseman got around Laninovich for the lead and Townley briefly moved by Laninovich on lap nine. With an aggressive block pass to regain the position, Townley ended up on the ground and Laniniovich regained the position. A lap and a half later, Alessi moved into third with Morais quickly making his move soon after for third. Next up was to get around Laninovich was Lange and on the last lap Alessi tipped over and allowed Morais and Lange to round out the podium as Jesseman went on to take the win. Townley was able to remount and finish a disappointing seventh.

When the gate dropped for the Supercross Main Event it was none other than Chad Reed grabbing another holeshot. Carmichael and Stewart quickly moved into second and third by the end of lap one. Early on everyone could tell it wasn't Reed's night as a mistake in the rythem section allowed Carmichael by on lap two followed by a scary moment when Reed spun just before the triple that resulted in a big case which let Stewart by. On lap six Carmichael and Stewart had distanced themselves from the struggling Reed and from there the two battled back and forth. It wasn't until lap 12 that Stewart made his way past Carmichael and the two traded positions leaving Stewart in the lead. Carmichael fired back on lap 16 and the two engaged in another battle. When Stewart rode off to victory the guard was officially passed as Carmichael retired from supercross racing and will begin a career in stock car racing. Reed finished third while Ivan Tedesco put in a promising ride with a fourth place finish.
