No Luck for Reed and Townley. Arenacross Champ, Darcy Lange Proves to be a Threat
2/26/2007

Atlanta, GA - The eighth round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series took place in front of 70,649 in Atlanta, GA. With Chad Reed coming off a win in San Diego, Ricky Carmichael returning for the weekend and James Stewart looking to redeem himself, the Georgia dome was full of anticipation. Adding to the excitement was the first round of the Eastern Supercross Lites Series. Riders such as Ben Townley, Darcy Lange, Ryan Dungey, and Matt Goerke were just a few names to watch for.
In the Supercross Lites division it was Lange who impressed nearly everyone in the industry with his new ride and speed. After easily winning his heat race, Lange looked to be a challenger in the main with a good start. After qualifying through the LCQ, Townley also looked to be a challenger.
When the gate dropped for the Lites Main Event it was Mike Alessi grabbing the Progressive Holeshot Award. At the end of lap one, Townley and Dungey crossed the finish line side by side. After a slight bobble from Townley, Dungey was able to pull a slight lead. Mid way through the race, Townley began charging hard and was no doubt the fastest rider on the track. However, his hard charging would come to a halt mid-way down the start straight when he pulled off with mechanical problems. Further back, Lange was putting in an extremely impressive ride after stalling his bike early in the race. After charging the entire race, Lange eventually moved into second while Goerke settled for third.
In the Supercross Main Event, Reed grabbed yet another giant Progressive Direct Holeshot Award ahead of Stewart and Carmichael. Within a few corners and after some aggressive passes Stewart was in the lead followed by Reed and Carmichael. On lap four, Reed slid out before the first whoop section, which allowed Stewart and Carmichael to pull a huge lead. Once Reed regained the race he was in fifth spot but was able to fight back and earn the last spot on the podium.
Look for Reed and Townley to redeem themselves in St. Louis this weekend.
