MX GP - Round 15 - Ernee, France
9/19/2006
The final round of the FIM MX World championship series has come to a close with over 17.000 partisan spectators cheering from the Ernee hillside in France. With the MX2 championship still undecided, THOR rider, Marc de Reuver, although not in the running for the title, still managed to mix it up with the title contenders.
De Reuver was one of few riders who was able to charge through the pack from a bad start in moto 1. The Dutchman rocketed from 20th position to 8th but ran out of time to move further up the standings.
An unstoppable Everts earned his 101 GP win to end an amazing career in the MX1 class. New Zealander Josh Coppins who qualified faster than Belgian, made too many mistakes in the first moto but redeemed himself in the final by coming home in a strong second.
With the curtains closed on the GP scene, all attention will now be turned to the historic 60th edition of the MX of Nations to be held next week in Matterly Basin, UK.
De Reuver: "The start in the first heat was not so good. I managed to come back to eighth and after twenty minutes I could really push and had a good speed. I was too cautious in the first part of the race. In the second moto I saw Pourcel coming and I let him by because I did not want to get mixed up in that Championship fight. I saw him fighting with Cairoli and I was just following when Pourcel crashed and I could take second. I was fast for some laps but then made some mistakes on others, however overall I am happy. The season was disappointing for a spell after the Bulgarian race; what more can I say? Fifth is still my best Championship finish. I have always been very happy with KTM but my injuries played a large part in my results and I could not always give them the trophies that I was capable of. I rode for a Dutch team and there was a close bond there. I have been very happy in my years here and I have a big challenge now for 2007."
