Gosselaar Finishes Second in Overall Point Race

4/3/2006

Houston, TX (April 1, 2006) — Round thirteen of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series also marked the seventh and final round of the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Series. The Supercross class had the same top three as last weekend with James Stewart taking the win, Ricky Carmichael in second and Chad Reed in third.

Davi Millsaps won his first AMA Supercross Championship along with the individual win in Houston. Thomas Hahn came in second while Parts Unlimited and THOR rider of Chris Gosselaar finished out the season with a third place which moved him into second place overall in points. Moose Racing rider, Teddy Maier finished eighth in the individual race as well as in the overall points race.

The first heat race had Michael Byrne grab the holeshot followed by Reed, Kevin Windham and Stewart. A few laps in Stewart had moved into the lead with Reed in second, Windham in third and Byrne in fourth. Later in the race, Byrne went down and had to qualify to the main by winning his semi. The second heat saw Carmichael grab the lead and never look back while Ivan Tedesco held on to second and transferred directly to the main.

Just as he did in the heat race, Byrne grabbed the holeshot in the Main Event but was quickly passed by Stewart and Carmichael. On lap four, Reed moved by Byrne for third and began chase on Stewart and Carmichael. On the seventh lap, Windham moved into fourth as Byrne slid back to fifth and for the rest of the race the running order would stay the same. Privateer, Chad Ward grabbed the holeshot in the Supercross Lites Main Event. Eventual winner, Millsaps rounded the first turn in seventh but by the end of the first lap sat in second. Josh Grant, who was the only other legitimate title contender DNF'd due to a crash that put a hole in his motor. Once the top three got around Ward, the running order never changed as Millsaps led Hahn and Gosselaar across the line.
