Reed, Byrne Take Second and Third in Daytona, Pastrana - Flips Out

Daytona Beach, FL (March 10, 2006) — For the first time and last time in AMA history, a back flip was attempted by none other than Travis Pastrana, after winning his day qualifier. The excitement with Pastrana didn't end there. During his heat race, Pastrana battled with Ivan Tedesco for the lead for several laps, amazing everyone in attendance with his speed through the treacherous whoops. The battle came to an end when Pastrana endowed in the whoops forcing him to the semis.
Two time defending Daytona champ, Chad Reed came into Daytona with the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Points lead, but a separated shoulder from the day before left the Parts Unlimited and THOR rider bruised and battered. Speedy Reedy skipped the second practice and backed out of his heat race after a minor wreck. He came back to win his semi while Pastrana was able to stay on two wheels and finish second.
In the Supercross Main, James Stewart grabbed the holeshot followed by Reed and Ricky Carmichael. On lap two, Stewart went down hard and Carmichael moved into the lead leaving Reed in second and Michael Byrne Travis Preston battling it out for third. RC pulled out to a big lead while Reed managed to put enough distance on the battle for third. At the end it was RC and Reed going 1 and 2 while Byrne rounded out the podium for the first time this year in third.
The Supercross Lites Main Event holeshot went to Parts Unlimited and THOR rider Chris Gosselaar, but was quickly passed by Davi Millsap's and Josh Grant. As the two front runners pulled a lead Lil' Goose and Brandon Jesseman battled it out until lap 11 when Goose made his final move and went on to round out the podium in third.
